Final Letter to Participants
Dear DOPE 2019 Registrants,
We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon! The DOPE 9 Organizing Collective is working to ensure that this year’s conference is one to remember. We want to make sure everyone has everything they need so here are some final details that may help your final conference preparations:
Will you be in town on Thursday night? Please join us at The West Sixth Greenroom from 7-10 PM for an informal welcome event. This downtown Lexington taproom and microbrewery is a wonderful example of what our city has to offer and we would love to share this little bit of ‘local Lexington’ with you!
The West Sixth Greenroom is walking distance from UK’s campus and the surrounding areas located at 109 W Main Street, Lexington Kentucky. [Parking information]
Conference Location: The majority of this year’s conference will take place in Patterson Hall in the North Campus area. Our Welcome Address, Plenary Panel, and Keynote Address will take place just down the street in the Gatton Business Building,
Patterson Hall is located at 342 South Limestone, Lexington Kentucky. (Note: This building is up the path directly across the street from the McDonalds)
Gatton College is located at 550 South Limestone Street, Lexington Kentucky.
Parking: On Friday, participants may park in the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) at 409 South Limestone. Note: This is paid parking ($16/day). On Saturday, parking is free at the Rose Street Garage (PS #2), at 301 Hilltop Avenue.
Important: Parking is difficult on campus and often requires a walk; we strongly recommend that participants make use of public transportation (LexTran) and/or ridesharing services (Uber/Lyft) while attending the conference.
Field Trips: We hope field trip participants have an excellent time on Thursday and Sunday. If you are no longer able to attend your field trip, please notify email@example.com.
Breakfast/Coffee: We will provide breakfast on Friday from 7:30am-10:00 AM and on Saturday from 8:00am-10:30am. We will also have coffee and tea available throughout day.
Reception: We will be carrying on the wonderful DOPE tradition of a Friday evening reception, following the Plenary Panel Event, from 7:00-10:00 PM. The reception will take place at The Boone Center on campus with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, and live music (8-10 PM).
The Boone Center is located at 500 Rose Street; parking available in the rear after 5:00 PM on Friday.
After-Party: While the conference technically comes to a close with the conclusion of the Keynote Address on Saturday evening, we would like to welcome everyone to join us at Lynaghs Irish Pub for an informal closing event following the Keynote.
Lynaghs Irish Pub is located at 384 Woodland Avenue, Lexington Kentucky.
Weather: Kentucky’s weather is notoriously inconsistent, so be sure to watch the forecast and pack accordingly.
If you have any questions leading up to the conference, please do not hesitate to reach out via firstname.lastname@example.org. We wish safe-travels for everyone making their way to Lexington this week and we look forward to welcoming you all to what is sure to be an incredible DOPE 9!
